Microplates for Cell Imaging

Out of focus images and inaccurate data collection are common issues caused by microplates that have not been specifically designed for the unique challenges of cell imaging and high-content screening. This can result in missed data points, sample re-screening, missed project timelines, and ultimately higher costs.

Drawing on many years of experience, Revvity’s expert team has developed PhenoPlate™ microplates (formerly known as CellCarrier™ Ultra microplates) as a key part of our complete solution for high-content applications. These microplates have been engineered to deliver superior images and the highest quality data for high-content applications.

From Sep 15, 2021, CellCarrier Ultra plates have been renamed PhenoPlates.

We also offer ViewPlate™ microplates engineered for bottom reading systems and high content imaging, which can be used for a range of cell-based assay applications including imaging, fluorescence, luminescence and absorbance as well as cell culture if tissue-culture treated.

  • Optimal clarity and fast autofocusing from excellent flatness of the plate bottom
  • Superior image quality from high optical quality of cyclic olefin imaging surface
  • Better well access when using water immersion and high NA objectives with ultra-low plate bottom
  • Reduced evaporation from new design, low-profile polystyrene lid
  • Less risk of damaging the imaging surface when stacking with unique corner spacers
  • Available with different coatings to suit your application

Alpha Terbium SureFire Ultra Multiplex: simultaneous dual phosphoprotein target analysis

Evaluating pharmaceutical compound efficacy and safety in regulating cell behavior can involve the study of multiple signal transduction pathways and measuring more than one cellular target can provide greater confidence of positive compound hits on the cellular target of interest. Protein phosphorylation has been identified as a useful readout of cellular activation or inhibition, and these pathways are commonly targeted for therapeutic modulation of disease. Numerous assay technologies are available to look at protein phosphorylation for drug development, including the AlphaLISA ™ SureFire ® Ultra which provides a highly sensitive, fully homogenous option for the analysis of signaling pathways. This application note details the implementation of multiplexing with the AlphaLISA SureFire Ultra Multiplex assay, which offers a homogenous and high throughput approach to multiplexing.

Automated high-content assay using GrowDex-embedded spheroids dispensed on JANUS G3 automated liquid handling workstation

When working with 3D cell models, high heterogeneity between samples can pose a challenge - either biological or technical. In this application note, we demonstrate how a JANUS G3 liquid handling workstation can be used to improve throughput as well as assay statics by automating the liquid handling steps of 384-well, hydrogel-based high-content toxicity assay.

hESC-derived cardiomyocyte screening platform identifies novel inhibitors of SARS-Cov-2 viral entry

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus that causes COVID-19, the respiratory illness responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies have shown that patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 with cardiovascular comorbidities are more susceptible to severe infection and thus the case fatality rate in these patients rises. To further understand the pathology of SARS-CoV-2 in cardiomyocytes, a team of researchers from the University of Cambridge in the UK, have developed a screening platform using human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hESC-CMs).

Multi-parametric assessment of EGF treatment effects on signaling pathways, growth and proliferation using AlphaLISA SureFire Ultra and cellular imaging

In this application note, we demonstrate an efficient cell-based workflow for the assessment of EGF treatment effects in a cellular model of human skin cancer. Treatment effects on several intracellular signaling pathways were examined using Revvity’s homogeneous, no-wash AlphaLISA ™ SureFire® Ultra assays. To determine concurrent time-dependent effects of different EGF concentrations on cellular health and proliferation, ATP concentrations were assessed with ATPlite ® 1step luminescence assay and cultures were fluorescently labeled, imaged and analyzed using the Operetta CLS™ high-content analysis system.

Multi-parametric high-throughput analysis of hepatotoxicity using a 3D primary liver cell culture model

3D cell cultures offer a more physiologically relevant option, but there are currently only a few high throughput screening (HTS) 3D systems that have high consistency and easily allow integration with downstream analysis methods. In this application note, we demonstrate the creation of an advanced 3D primary human hepatocyte (PHH) model using the RASTRUM platform that seamlessly integrates with Revvity’s HTS technologies.
