Agricultural Metagenomics

Improving the efficiency of metagenomic analysis of soil samples

Understanding and characterizing soil metagenomic populations can enable regulation of plant performance through improved bioavailability of nutrients, secretion of bioactive compounds, and hormones to promote or repress plant growth.

To overcome the limitations of the culture dependent techniques traditionally used to study microbial populations, scientists have adopted culture-independent techniques employing molecular biology-based methods, in which the DNA from the soil microbiome is extracted and subsequently subjected to PCR amplification and NGS sequencing.

Revvity has optimized this workflow to provide an efficient assessment of the microbial composition present in soil samples with reduced bias leveraging chemagen™ technology for automated soil extraction.
