Maternal Serum Alpha Fetoprotein (MSAFP) Screening is an optional blood test done between 16 to 21 weeks in pregnancy. screens for “open neural tube” defects.
Indications for testing
An AFP blood test is used during pregnancy to check the baby's risk of birth defects and genetic disorders such as neural tube defects.
Condition description
This Second Trimester Screening is performed between the 16th and 21st week of pregnancy.
