Biotin labeled dideoxycytosine triphosphate (ddCTP) is biologically active and can be incorporated with a variety of DNA polymerases including Taq, Klenow fragment, and Sequenase™. It terminates further incorporation and enables identification of the complementary base for applications like DNA sequencing and detection of point mutations. Biotin-labeled products may be detected with streptavidin conjugates.
The number “11” in the compound name refers to the length of the linker arm between ddCTP and the label.
