WD repeat-containing protein 5 (WDR5) is a member of the WD40 repeat domain protein family. WDR5 is a core scaffolding component of histone methyltransferase complexes. New data demonstrates that the protein is involved in additional processes, ranging from expanded functions in the nucleus to controlling the integrity of cell division. The canonical function of WDR5 is as a core component of the SET1/MLL histone methyltransferase complexes. WDR5 has emerged as a prime target for anti-cancer drug discovery efforts including the PROTAC degrader approach.
