Ikaros, or IKZF1, is a transcription factor and a member of the Krüppel family, also known as the Ikaros family zinc finger protein family (IKZF). Ikaros displays crucial functions in the hematopoietic system and is a known regulator of immune cell development. Ikaros can also directly initiate or suppress tumor suppressors or oncogenes, consequently regulating the survival and proliferation of cancer cells. Mutations or deficiencies associated with Ikaros are linked to numerous cancers, including pediatric B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia, multiple myeloma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, mantle cell lymphoma, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer.
