Fms related receptor tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) is a member of the class III receptor kinase family. FLT3 acts as a cell surface receptor for the cytokine FLT3LG and regulates differentiation, proliferation, and survival of hematopoietic progenitor cells and of dendritic cells. This kinase is involved in the activation of the downstream effort of MTOR, promotes activation of RAS signaling, and phosphorylates downstream kinases including MAPK1/ERK2 and/or MAPK3/ERK1. Mutations of the FLT3 gene occur in approximately 30% of all acute myeloid leukemia cases.
