Receptor tyrosine-protein kinase erbB3, also known as HER3 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 3) is a membrane bound protein that is encoded by the ERBB3 gene. ErbB3 has a neuregulin binding domain, however, does not have an active kinase domain and can therefore bind this ligand but is unable to convey the signal into the cell through protein phosphorylation. ErbB3 forms heterodimers with other EGF receptor family members which have kinase activity. Heterodimerization leads to the activation of pathways that trigger cell proliferation or differentiation. ErbB3 overexpression is an indicator of poor patient prognosis in human breast cancer and has also been reported in other cancers such as prostate and bladder.
The AlphaLISA SureFire Ultra Human Phospho-ErbB3 (Tyr1289) Detection Kit is a sandwich immunoassay for the quantitative detection of phospho-ErbB3 (Tyr 1289) in cellular lysates, using Alpha Technology.
