Cluster of differentiation 3 Zeta (CD3 ζ) also known as T-cell receptor T3 zeta chain or CD247, is one of the four chains composing the CD3 complex. CD3 is a T-cell co receptor involved in activating both the cytotoxic T cell (CD8+ naive T cells) and T helper cells (CD4+ naive T cells). It is composed of two CD3ε chains, a CD3γ chain, and a CD3δ chain. The Zeta chain plays an important role in coupling antigen recognition to several intracellular signal-transduction pathways. Low expression of the antigen results in impaired immune response.
