Neurological Rare Diseases

Expand your understanding of neurological rare diseases

When you hear neurological disorders, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's or other talked-about disorders such as epilepsy or stroke come to mind. However, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), more than a third of the approximately 7,000 known rare diseases are thought to involve the nervous system. In fact, most rare diseases can be pinned to a specific genetic alteration – in some cases a single well-known genetic mutation – and are therefore at the forefront of cutting-edge genetic research. The bulk of this research is occurring in academia, geared toward fully understanding the basic mechanisms of a disease. In biotech and pharma, the research is focused on the development of novel technologies and drug discovery that may one day translate into a therapy or cure.

Revvity supports the efforts of leading scientists by offering reliable reagents and instrumentation for core gene engineering technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 and siRNAs, library prep kits and automation solutions for next-generation sequencing, assessment of rAAV capsid generation and lentiviral transfection efficiency for research or drug development, and protein detection solutions, among others.
